Most SoCIETIE projects are listed: a partner has a piece of work, and a student joins it. These three routes run the other way. You arrive with the relationship already in hand and turn it into a project.
- Bring Your Own Community Project: a community organisation you already volunteer with, work for or know well.
- Bring Your Own Campus Idea: something on campus that could work better, usually tackled as a team.
- Bring Your Own Research Project: research you are doing in a lab, research group or R&D team, extended into its social, cultural, ethical or technical context, with your supervisor as mentor.
The test is the same for all three: the person or organisation you work with would want this done whether or not you were enrolled.
Get Involved
- Talk to the person you will work with: your contact at the organisation, whoever runs that part of campus, or your research supervisor. Supervisors can read the guide for research supervisors.
- Agree together what the work is, what you will hand over and roughly how many hours it will take.
- Once you have enrolled, describe the project in your Course Pathway Plan.
For campus ideas, the Living Lab session around Week 3 of semester is the place to find a team. Not sure whether an idea fits? Email McCusker.Education@anu.edu.au before you enrol.
