About this KNoT
Turn your project's value proposition into a compelling story of positive impact. In this practical and interactive workshop you will frame your project as a big-impact story that makes the change you want to create clear and memorable, work out the value you are creating for the people you want to reach, and practice communicating it effectively to different audiences - whether they are partners, funders, collaborators, community members or decision-makers.
This workshop is a variation on Canberra Innovation Network's Idea to Impact series for Canberra founders and innovators, which will be facilitated by Craig Davis - CBRIN's General Manager, Growth. You should bring an aspect of your project as the idea to pitch - no business background needed.
Preparation
Come with something to work on as an idea: most likely your SoCIETIE project, but could be another idea, a club, or a side project. Bring a brief description on who it is for.
What You’ll Learn
It is hard to know what to prioritise when you are communicating your work - the problem is complex, there's been a lot of work done to create the idea, you know so much about the solution and change it could make. This workshop helps you get clear on why anyone should care, and then say it well.
Things you'll learn:- Build you story of how your work contributes to positive impact, community transformation and meaningful real-world change.
- Unpack what makes your skills, experiences, project contributions valuable.
- Understand different audiences and identify what matters most to each of them so that you can tailor your messaging.
- Practice delivering a concise, confident and audience-driven pitch that inspires understanding, trust and action.
This could help with the 'what next' for your SoCIETIE project.

Tips & Advice
Most people in the room are working on their own projects. Talk to them at the break — hearing how someone else describes their value is one of the fastest ways to sharpen your own.

How to Complete This KNoT
Submit both of the following:
- Your value proposition in one or two sentences, written before and after the workshop.
- A 250–400 word reflection: what was your pitch before the session, what feedback did you get, and what did you change as a result? Say what still does not work and what you would try next.
Submit your Completion Task here:
Submit your completion task for this KNoT via the Qualtrics survey (ANU Login required). You have 10 calendar days after the KNoT to submit it.
Writing your reflection
Most completion tasks ask you to reflect on what you did. For prompts, sentence starters, and the five areas a strong reflection covers, see Writing Your Reflection. Your completed tasks come together at the end of the semester in the Completion Evidence.
